Pinks, Yellow, Two Guinea Pigs and Papa with a Cuppa - September 2020

The world’s otherness, its beauty and the mystery, can re-dignify

the worst-stung heart.
~ Mary Oliver

‘Sunset, Moonlight and Wattle Flowers’. Acrylic on 30x30cm canvas.

‘Sunset, Moonlight and Wattle Flowers’. Acrylic on 30x30cm canvas.
I painted both with the same theme in mind. They could be seen as a diptych, but also work well on their own.
The story of these two paintings is about time and distance and travelling from one end of the State to the other; the Wattle trees in flower for Spring, rainforests and eucalypts, cows, sheep, roads and rivers that intersect the landscape, and each other along the way. It is a Tasmanian story, with Tasmanian scenes, and the ocean at its end. 🙂

'Cuppa for the  Papa'. 15-09-20          Pen on the back of a shopping docket.
At a cafe on the way out of the shopping centre.

'The Sacrifice'. Acrylic on approx 10x10cm canvas.
A painting I began a couple of years ago. From a series about a ‘Little Yellow Bird’.
I added the 3 birds and the 2 guinea pigs to the work to complete this painting.
Quality Prints of these paintings on 100% cotton watercolour paper are available.

‘Gin / Pink Lady’. Acrylic on canvas, 15x15cm. (Sold).

The Gaurdians - July 2020

Sometimes I need only to stand wherever I am to be blessed - Mary Oliver.

There is always a subject to paint, right in front of us, outside the window, in a stall life or landscape, portrait or abstract. Next time you wonder what to paint, just take your imagination with you, and make it your own. Here, cows are the central theme, constant and siently watchful, the gaurdians of the earth.

The Gaurdians: Heart of the Country.’ Acrylic on canvas, 30x30cm.

‘The Builder’s Hands.’  23-07-20. Pencil on A4 paper
‘It is in your hands to create a better world...’ Nelson Mandela.

Walking and Talking - August 2020

image

I have learned to live my life one step, one breath, and one moment at a time, but it was a long road. I set out on a journey of love. - Muhammad Ali

‘Cousins - The Fish Pond II’.
Pen on 30x21cm 100%rag watercolour paper.
The story of this painting is a simple one of 3 children at a fish pond doing what kids do - exploring their world, talking, imagining and making fun. The one on the left is cousin to the two on the right. They could be anyone’s children, any cousins. This is what the memories of childhood are made of.

The Snow.
Pen on A4 paper. First big snow in 30 years. After a heap of photos, this was the best one. I left the paper white where the snow was. Sometimes less is more.

Walking. Watercolour pencil on A5 paper.

The Cousins Walking. 3rd in a series depicting the same scene.

Shadows, Light and Cows - August 2020

The world in which other animals move, the world that they see, is, and always will be, entirely beyond us. That there are such worlds all around us is an essential feature of our world. ~ Mary Midgley

The 3 images below represent the constant state of cows walking past our window, early morning and evening. Like other things that surround me, I take my painting inspiration from the everyday, always having something that feeds my imagination.
